The mighty Tōtara tree stands tall and proud. It protects those smaller than itself. In ancient times it was used to build waka that carried hundreds of warriors and build whare to protect people from the earths elements. As the team gifted with the name tōtara, we take on much of it’s meaning. We protect those who are younger than us and we support others by encouraging them, and being active role models in our kura. We are the leaders of KNS.

Kaiapoi High Coffee and Cake Evening
This evening we had a great group of parents and some students come in to meet with KH Principal, Bruce Kearney, and head students, Ben & Destiny, to talk about transitioning to high school.
Remember, regardless of what high school your child is going to, you need to enrol them for next year now. Please let your child's home class teacher know what school you have selected.

Welcome Back - Science!
Everyone seems to have a good break and has come back to school quite refreshed. This term is a busy one so please make sure you have got the school app and keep up to date with everything being sent home.
This term and next term, students music sessions each week are replaced with science. We have set up a variety of experiments and activities around the nature of science for students to work on. This will give them a base understanding for when they move onto high school.
This week and next week classes will be focusing on:
Room 22 - Floating Ice predictions (Global warming)
Room 21 - Dancing Raisins
Room 20 & 19 - Oil Pollution
Room 18 - Why does popcorn pop?
Some great discussions we had during our first sessions around fair testing, variables, and hypotheses.
